Kinda late, but still helpful I think. "Good Flag, Bad Flag." 5 principles to good flag design.
1) Keep It Simple - The flag should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory. 2) Use Meaningful Symbolism - The flag's images, colors or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes. 3) Use 2-3 Basic Colors - Limit the number of colors on the flag to three, which contrast well and come from the standard color set. 4) No Lettering or Seals - Never use writing of any kind or an organization's seal. 5) Be Distinctive or Be Related - Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections.
As for making a map, Inkarnate is perfect and easy to use.

Uh, there are almost no RL countries which follow that rule. 2. I followed that rule. 3. see 1. 4. Uh, what? 5. I followed that rule.

Just because the Spanish had zero regard and throw crazy ass seals all over their flags doesn't mean everyone else does. Canada, suuuuuper simplistic. USA, kind of simplistic, state flags typically moreso. Great Britain, suuuper simple. France, easiest goddamn flag out there. Russia basically the same China, super easy and simple. But yeah, no one uses those standard rules.

You don't have to be a puppet country of another country to allow your citizens to join their army. In Singapore all permanent residents, even if they're not citizens, are drafted at 18. Luxembourg, because they're landlocked, has an agreement with Belgium and the Netherlands to allow their soldiers to join the navy of one of those countries. Can I just say that despite knowing this in part this is very interesting information that got overlooked because of the ‘argument’.

A quick question about rule 5: Indonesia and Poland have no common history that I'm aware of, so they confuse me and all the other countries when I try to read polanball comics. My question about them is as follows: Can polan into space? Wrong question, I meant what's the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallowwhy do they have similar flags?

I think it has modernized symbols, but that might just be for the paid version.
Also Duck, pretty sure you're the one who first showed me Inkarnate, haha.

Uh, no. They're all just extremely tiny details that wouldn't really make any future fictional nations better. I think that the geopolitical impact of the nation's existence and the size and population density of the country aren't "tiny details", but hey, what do I know? I've never tried this. I'm going to try this once I get back to Singapore just to prove that I'm better than you because my ego won't stand for anything less than being superior to everyone in every way. So, Tim, let me know when you're making the map. Guess what? I'm better than you.

Like, I'm really bad. I'll see if I can show you some examples of just how bad I am at drawing, but I kind of don't want to try drawing at the moment because I'm so bad at it. I can describe in great detail roughly what I want the map to look like, but I would be hopeless at actually drawing the thing. I could do the rest of it better than you, though, and you haven't even posted a map yet.

too complicated, stick to 2 or 3 colors for western civilization. I recommend removing the green and red.

I think blue, white and yellow seem to go well together. Could maybe change the stars orange, if that color has some particular meaning to it, though orange stars may look fucky. Just imo, yellow and orange fade together too easily to be bordered like that.

In fact, the green and red is one of the most important parts. The stars and the colours are all important in some way.

I have't posted a map yet because you'd find the tiniest, most stupid reason to criticize it (despite the fact that it's quite good) and you'd still get backed up by others. You're the reason a lot of Coural's main features aren't on the thread.

Let me pitch this; You don't really need the green or blue, but if the blue is purely to represent the fact that it's a pair of islands, then that is kind of redundant with the stars. Switch the blue with your hopeful green, I didn't see you really signify a difference between yellow and orange except wealth and prosperity (Same thing, basically. Wealth doesn't necessarily have to mean money, but when it does, that typically translates into being prosperous,) but I'll drop that. I didn't see anything about the white, but maybe paint one or both stars red to represent your Korean War? Being on a sea of green, it could represent hope even during times of difficulty.
Just a thought. (And red, yellow, green is a good combination, imo. And orange.)
