Secretly, the Chinese just wanted to mine Helium3 on the moon for nuclear purposes. With this new abundance of Helium3 owned by China, it was richer than the United States. Although, pollution is still widely affecting the country back on Earth. China had also been preparing for a mission to send forty-percent of their billion plus population to Kepler-186f.
With new Helium3-based rockets, they were able to make it to Kepler faster than any of the other countries. With China actively abusing the new resources on Kepler, the other countries starting with the United States caught up and began colonizing on the new planet. They often deployed TALOS units with the settlers to make sure that the Chinese government didn't try to attack them.
All was serene and quiet for a decade.
