the rice is everywhere
those tiny beige larvae are inescapable
they start wriggling on the pillows of the lazy
they gather in clumps after the furry animals stand up and move away
they grow into tiny black monsters that make the house itch and the carpets jump
and every millimeter you miss is another breeding nightmare
every crack and crevice, infested, it seems
but what is worse, when you can see them, or when you cannot?
what is worse, when you ignore them and snuggle into your infleasted blankets, or when you're scared of lying in your own bed?
what's worse, being able to cuddle the cats in denial, or back away slowly while scratching your own seemingly constantly itching head, not knowing if it's dandruff or if they lied to you, and the monsters do bite people
what's worse, thinking your ankles just have a ton of tiny mosquito bites, or suspecting that you can't even safely walk barefoot on your own carpet
thinking those are harmless carpet bugs, or realizing as you sit on the carpet and draw on the floor that those are fleas crawling on your arms and notebooks
when seeing just one is a nightmare, because for every one you see, there's probably hundreds that you don't
and all you want to do is run and run so far and just lie down and forget the world, only to wake up with a bug on your arm
and though you deal with it calmly, inside you want to scream
and you want to take your phone and find a cement floor to thrust it upon, for the sheer enjoyment of it shattering, because you know what phones break pretty easily and when you're stressed all you wanna do is throw stuff around sometimes

with bedbugs
it's living hell
i dreaded coming home from vacation because i knew they'd be here
i'm afraid of giving my friend her sweater back because i don't want a bedbug to get in it and give them to her
we have to check everything before packing
we spray every other day, if not every day
it does nearly nothing
our mattresses are filled with them
my mom has bites all over her arms, to the point where they look like hives
bugs got on the computer chair and i was scared to sit on it for a few hours
my hair brushes my bare arm and i jump, checking if it's a bug
sorry
i never get the chance to vent about it

I had fleas. They weren't a bother, just a minor problem. I guess I don't really mind creatures sucking my blood. It's not like the black plague is still around (or at least in an active state of mass infection, if it is indeed the bubonic plague), and the anesthetic makes it not hurt.

I mind blood sucking creatures when my cat pukes blood and we think he's gonna die only to find out, after months of putting off a vet visit out of fear that he was sick and was going to die, he's just severely allergic to fleas and all of the time we spent hesitating was only making the infestation worse.
that was november.
