children being abandoned would make sense. hear me out.
an apocalypse wouldn't stop people from 'doing-the-do', and protective things wouldn't be available. if the father did not not how to commit an abortion, the mother would have to give birth. in a world where food is already hard enough to come by, the child would more often than not abandoned. the only exceptions would be for people who lived in large groups like gangs. this doesn't mean a bunch of people should play this cliche, im just saying like one person with this would make sense. but there'd have to be a small maximum, since the likelihood of a child surviving alone is 0, unless they were physically fit and abandoned in teenage years. alternatively, they could've also been adopted by another who had a larger availability of food.
