A follow-up to Tim's thread about not knowing the meaning of words: Words that you COULD HAVE SWORN existed, but Definitely Do Not.
- Intristic (Google keeps telling me "intrinsic", but its meaning does not quite align with what I'm looking for!)
- Trinary colors (I made this word up in elementary school art class. The correct word is tertiary, but trinary makes more sense given "primary" and "secondary" and trinary is easier to remember. Unfortunately, it also does not exist, as I embarrassingly found out in high school art class.)
- and many, many more but these are the two I was thinking of when I made this thread

I used to think that there was a military rank spelled and pronounced "colonel" "coll-uh-nell" and one spelled "kernel" or something thereabouts. I later found out that the word "colonel" is spelled that way but often pronounced as "kernel". It took me a fair while to have figured that one out.

Intristic sounds like a word. I swear I've heard it. I'm absolutely tripping right now.

I used to think that supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was a word.
I'm glad that it's not. It was, honestly speaking, rather quite atrocious.

I'm not sure why. They had me learn how to spell it in highschool. With my body. In rhythm. Participating in my highschool's performance of the Mary Poppins musical was one my life's biggest mistakes.
