I'm starting to think that it's intentional. A kind of "fuck you, if you want your ears to not bleed give us money" to attempt to break immersion in whatever album I'm listening to.

What kind of music? It's pretty likely that it's just a type of music you don't enjoy; I seriously doubt they'd use bad music on purpose.

Okay, it might be the types of music that I listen to just don't work if there's an advertisement in the middle. I realized that no matter what came in the middle of War of the Worlds (the album, not the book) I'd absolutely hate it because it would completely destroy all the immersion.

Adblock prevents ads before a song plays on Youtube and pretty much everywhere else. It's not just for popups.
