I figured my thread on alcohol was relatively decent, so I decided to make a thread about another thing that I've experienced: Chronic hunger. Let me just tell you guys up front that it is absolutely terrible. For a few years, I've been eating between one and two meals a day as opposed to the standard three, and on some days those "meals" could be as loosely defined as some crackers that I purchased from 7-11. It has recently been brought to my attention that this is unhealthy. I'll just quickly go over some of the terrible things that occur, both as a result of chronic hunger (starvation, basically) and of trying to end it, so that you guys can write about starvation better. - The most notable thing about being hungry is the headaches. I have a hard time with bright lights and loud noises ordinarily because I have Asperger's, but throw hunger into it and the headaches are so bad that I can't concentrate on anything.
- Things all start to taste really funny, both when you're hungry and when you're trying to snap out of it. Some pancakes I had this morning were just sickeningly sweet. I think that this is the brain trying to make anything at all more appetizing by sweetening it, but because everything is already so sweet in this day and age it was just disgusting.
- Mood swings, including anger and depression.
- The worst thing, I think, is trying to get back to three meals and 2,000 calories a day. It's a sickeningly large amount of food, given what I've been eating for a while. I've started eating more meals and larger meals, and I've felt like throwing up ever since I started (I'm not balemic or anorexic, though; I'm actively trying to gain weight).
- There's some other stuff that nobody really talks about, like the psychological implications of being physically weaker than everyone else (other than people who are starving-er than you).
If I can think of other effects of hunger, I'll let you guys know.

The thing about the 2000 calories/day standard is that it's just an average to cover most, average height/weight people. My 100 lb ass doesn't need that much even on my most active days, for example. And I'm not necessarily anorexic, I'm just 5'2, so I just simply don't need it.

What the hell - I just ran some calculations and I'm 121-ish lbs (55.6kg is my precise measurement, run the numbers yourself if you don't like my estimation) and I'm categorized as being underweight (because I am). You weigh even less than I do. And I'm not necessarily anorexic, I'm just 5'2, so I just simply don't need it. Oh, that explains it! You weigh less than me, but you have a higher bmi: You manage to just get into the healthy range, if I'm not mistaken, whereas I have a bmi of 17.9, which is a tiny bit into underweight territory. I like how all the bmi calculation sites always talk about weight loss and completely ignore weight gain. Like on this site, if you click the seemingly intentionally vague "Controlling your weight" button, it brings up a lot of weight loss pages and nothing on weight gain. In spite of that (and lots of obesity statistics), Bannanachair seems to have a lot of people who are underweight or borderline underweight.

Well there's two ways I can think of to gain weight; Fat, and muscle. While you're skinny as hell, building muscle will be much easier.
I used to not even scratch 3 digits, in which I absolutely was underweight. A few push-ups and sit-ups before my shower each day though and I'm back up to being healthy.
If you want my routine, I just start at 10 of both the first day, then 20, 30, so forth up to 70, then you reset at the beginning of the next week. Not really much, but eh, it's nice having visible abs now haha.

Eh, at a larger scale of underweight, sure, but when he's that little over the line; Weight is weight.
In any case, gorging is a terrible answer. If nothing else... Learn to cook, Tim. My dad was losing weight like crazy because, well old age probably has some role in it, but also just the lack of real food. He's been getting it back ever since I went to culinary and starting being g the house chef, though. Maybe that can help you.
First you'll want a good knife, but I personally feel like most of my time in class was wasted. I can teach the proper cuts for onions and whatnot, but the rest is just; "Can you read and follow instructions? Okay, start cooking." Your tongue & nose will become more refined over time.

Yeah, it's largely the lack of food that's making me hungry, not the lack of muscle.

I went through a period where my dad was giving me slightly more money for food, but now it's been about 24 hours since my last meal and 24 hours since the one before that, and neither meal was particularly large, and I am not managing well at all. I do not have any money to be able to buy food nor do I have any food to eat. My dad will not give me more money to buy food unless I finish my chemistry work, and I can't do my chemistry work because I'm starving because I don't have enough money to buy food.

What's the chemistry work? Stuff relating to Hess's law, enthalpy change and Born-Haber lattice energy, among other things.
