So... Anyone buying Star Wars BF2? I honestly never played the first (Excluding the older two, of course.) and thus have no interest, but holy shit watching EA's comment on Reddit go through the seven circles of Hell is absolutely fucking hilarious.
The record most downvoted comment two days ago was -20k or so, for anyone interested. Last I looked today, EA was at roughly -400k lmfao.

Yeah, it's stupid to even try to excuse ridiculous microtransactions in games like that. I feel like all of the AAA game companies are about to push us into another Video Game Crash, kinda like how the world is living through a second Cold War.

Honestly I could understand and accept a grind reward system, I do play a small number of MMOs, but 40 hours per character seems a little rough, and the ability to bypass that grind completely just by purchase makes it obvious that you aren't being rewarded for a good grind; You're being punished by not taking the shortcut.
Micro transactions are never going to go away, unfortunately. They earn way, way more revenue for a game than base sales tend to. The sad part is that instead of adding them elegantly like some games have tried, most prefer to just put the customer in a choke-hold through the form of customers willing to pay for performance aids, or by simply cutting out pieces and offering it back with a new pricetag on it.
EDIT: Hell, giving it some thought, if they really wanted to add purchasable characters they should have just offered something like custom Jedi/Sith characters, kind of like KotOR. Mostly just because I think it'd be cool having a custom colored saber, haha. Maybe choose a hero template to start, then allow some kind of simple character editor. It would ideally function just the same as the chosen template, just given a more customized appearance.

Haha to be fair, those white and black lightsabers in KotOR were pretty damn nifty.

Apparently Gamespot spent $100 in loot boxes and still received less than half the amount of credits needed to purchase either Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. That’s pretty terrible, aha.
That -20k comment was rather legendary at the time (I don’t think anything else came close). But this one takes it to a whole new level, like there needs to be some monumentally stupid comment to even come close to that.

Goddamn that is really awful, but at the same time, it could be a sign of something good. Almost like the person in charge of pricing isn't the person demanding an optional payroll on characters.
Take Rift for example; I've always praised the fact that they could make a free WoW-mimic without resorting to extremely cheap pay-to-win strategies. Aside from credit vouchers always available flooded in the Auction Houses, (If unfamiliar; It's an in-game eBay that only uses common gold.) which makes everything rather easy to get for free, but the store is also 99.99% cosmetic BS that has zero game changes. You could buy entry-tier raid gear, (Meaning you'll pr obably replace it not too long after using it) but it was $150 a piece, meaning ~$750 excluding weapons and accessories/trinkets. That's a clear example where the shortcut is a punishment, not the preferred method. However, I haven't played in a couple years, and I did see new classes being sold. Mostly really weird concepts like a Mage Tank or Rogue Healer, and they might've eventually turned free as this was right after an expansion, but idk. (The expansions are free, but the last I played was boring as hell. FUCK underwater bullshit; I'm not going through 5 zones and 10 levels of that.)
