(The original thread, for those interested.)Name: Sergei Muscle of Vanarus Kingdom: Ulm. Magic Skills: No. Inventory: A steel battleaxe, money, the manual to adventuring. Appearance: Sergei is bear-like in appearance, being very tall and muscled. His hair is dark brown, as are his eyes. He bears some scars on his face and body. In bear form, he has some white fur around his nuzzle and at the bottom of his four feet. Goal: To become the greatest warrior the land has seen. Also get a cool greatsword. Their questions asked and answered, the mercenaries return to the road, and to their original conversations and discussions. Unfortunately for you , being the newcomer, you aren't really brought into the conversations. You find that your walk filled with the sounds of murmurs and laughter and talking, but very little of it is directed at you. That isn't to say no one talks to you, of course. The blind boy and both the Halberdiers make an effort to talk to you. The blind boy asks you of your accomplishments and feats, while the Halberdiers do the same, but splice in a few small talk questions about your background and skills.

"My feats?" Sergei roars with laughter. "I am one of the greatest warriors and fighters in the South of Ulm!" He grins widely, his teeth looking like claws. "I was born in the city of Khubrei to a ex-soldier blacksmith father. From him, I inherited his strength and learned about weaponry. From his customers, I learned the basics of fighting. As I grew up, I became more interested in this and began to train, working my way up and making a reputation, and here I am! Twenty-seven victories, eight draws, five losses!" He pauses. "But a few weeks ago, it became clear to me that there was more to life than these fights. Now, I search to become a noble warrior who fights all evil in the land! I wouldn't mind if I got a better greatsword or battleaxe while doing so." He chuckles.

"Quite the interesting life you've lived." says the Halberdier, seemingly enthralled by your stories
"If I may ask, though, what exactly do you hope to find in Ulm?"

'Well, I don't know about any evil, but I know Ulm is about ready to explode thanks to the conflict between the priests and the smiths. I'm sure either side would welcome to extra muscle with open arms. Just something to think about."
The Halberdier merges back into the group, and you weigh his suggestion as you continue on. Suddenly, in a twist of fate not unlike your own meeting with the mercenaries, you and the troop encounter a traveler on the road. However, something about him is slightly more... "Ominous." He's a slender, pale figure, bald, and with some wrinkling. He dresses in long, dark purple robes, and on his bony hands you notice a few rings of various metals, and with various gemstones. The mercenary captain hails him over, much as he had done with you. The man smiles a crooked smile, and approaches.

Sergei instinctively readies his large hand to pull out his weapon. He doesn't like ominous people. Or thin people. They don't eat much. Which means they don't like food. Who doesn't like food? The undead, maybe. Sergei knew *he* liked food. No matter.
Sergei looked at the man with unease.

The man certainly didn't grow less painful to look at the closer he came.
"Hello mercenaries." says the man as he approached. His voice was deep, and gravely, as if he had been ingesting rocks and dust for the past hundred or so years.
"You seem like a fine sort, and I've got fine things for fine sorts." explains the man "You can call me Nevello, and I've got all kinds of magical armaments and trinkets for you, should you have the coin."

Sergei relaxed a bit, but he remained wary of the man. "I have the coin. Show us your wares, Nevello."

The other mercenaries nod or say they also have coin, and the merchant smirks. He whispers an incantation, and a table of trinkets and weapons rises up from the earth. There's a wide variety of swords and axes and spears, as well as various knick knacks.

The odd little man puts his hand over his chest, and makes a face as if you've insulted his mother.
"Why, don't be silly. My items are top of the line, no curses to be had! You dishonor me and my wares to even imply as such." He says in a disarmingly jovial tone

As the other mercenaries gawk and stare over the table, the merchant comes and puts his arm around you. His arm is covered by his robe, so most of what you feel is the fabric of them, but his cold, boney hand finds itself on your shoulder.
"For you, my brutish friend, I recommend this."
The mage whispers more incantations, and a bloodied ax appears before you.
"It is known as Flesh Eater. Wield it in battle, and no man will withstand your might."

A look of disappointment appears over the mans ghoulish face. He shrugs his shoulders, and snaps his fingers, so returning the ax from whatever astral realm he kept it in.
"Suit yourself, my friend. I'll be here till your friends finish up, should you change your mind."
He walks over to the table, hoping the mercenaries will be more willing to spend their coin.

The trinkets the merchant sells are rather expensive, and the whole troop has to toss in a few coins in just to buy a couple things. Those two things happen to be a giants amulet,a rather spooky looking talisman that is said to turn it's wielder into a giant when they enter combat, and a quite sharp looking sword. Upon testing the sharpness on a tree, the mercs discover that it cuts through wood like butter, and brings the tree down in one swing. Night is approaching, and the group decide to use their newly bought sword to chop up some fire wood and set up camp. The merchant, having made his coin from everyone but you, approaches you once more in private.
"So, my fine land." He begins "Are you sure you wouldn't be interested in annnny of my trinkets?"

The man chuckles.
"This, my friend, is sure to impress."
As he did earlier, the merchant whispers an incantation, and summons a weapon out from another realm. This time, a black steel great sword hovers through.
"This blade is known as Demon's Bane. It emits holy fire and can smite any demon it comes into contact with."

"Only demons? Or any monsters, just better at killing demons?" "It's blade was forged from holy fire, so it has the ability to banish demons. It is also quite sharp, and would serve you well against any opponent."

The merchant hands you the sword, and you hand him the coin. As the sword enters your grip, you feel... odd. A certain power comes over you, but you can't tell what it is, or if it's a bad sort of power or a good sort of power.
"It was a pleasure doing business with you, my friend." The face of the merchant forms into a friendly smile, or as friendly a smile that can be made from that face. His disposition betrays nothing, and he acts no different than he did previously. He puts the bag of coin in his cloak, and begins to walk away.
