Today I heard somewhere that a Robinson R22 costs a mere $250,000 or so dollars firsthand and anywhere between $100,000 and $150,000 secondhand. That means a second-hand helicopter costs about the same amount of money as my mum's Lexus. Basically, if you can afford a car that's not shit you can afford a helicopter.
Edit: Minor miscalculation; I forgot that over 90% of the money spent to buy cars where I live is taxes to the government. If you can afford to own multiple mid-level cars in the rest of the world you can own a helicopter. That's still cheaper than I thought it would be, though.

Are you including the price of flight training and all that?

Are you including the price of flight training and all that? When you buy a car, do you include the price of the driving instructor required to give you a driver's license?

Well I'm guessing flight training might be a bit more difficult and costly than a driver's license but honestly that's my intuition. Surely the maneuvers of 3D movement in a vehicle is in our instincts.
