Roaming the bitterest parts of the north is the terrifying Lorvang Cult, an a undead horde that conquers all it sees with no mercy or care for who it takes over.
Somehow you already in a war with a poor human tribe called the Korviks, their armies may be larger but the undead's power shall be enough to be their undoing.
You're at the small outpost simply called Lorvang recently built by your engineers so you can plan a quick attack on the Korviks.

At last, released from the ice. The Korviks have witnessed our release and return to power! They shall be our first servants, who shall march at the front and suffer till escape, one by one falling so that others may take their place. These few necromancers shall make a cloud of death around them, so that the skeletal warriors still under our command may move in and destroy them while they are weakened.

Their pointy wooden spears come at you and while some of are wounded it's generally a quick battle, soon you see the leader of the Korviks standing alone looking defeated at his fate, he looks around before getting on his knees.
" Stop, please I beg of you!"
The village seems to be mostly intact aside from a few of your troops who tried to burn down a few homes, undisciplined little bastard they are.

The dead with free will? No such thing. Those who refuse to obey every command down to the mental letter will have their souls consumed, trapped within the necromancer to fuel their energies for all eternity. And I did not order them to burn things.
The Korvik leader, however, will make an excellent Knight. Off with his head, and so shall the new Death Knight arise!

He screams and bleeds out before being revived as a new soldier, he complains at first but is a little happy to keep his life. What will you do with Korvik loot it and move along? Settle it? Just leave because it smells funny?

This place... shall be turned into our fortress. The foundations are all here, we just need to build it up into a place worthy of true necromancers! Build it, my minions, build a great fortress worthy of an immortal emperor!

Due to a lack of resources they just start breaking apart the already standing buildings and turning them into a new fortress. Stone and wood grouped together and stacked on top of each other in an attempt to make a worthy fortress for the undead lord.
The ones who don't feel like it decide to go and raid some other humans
