Your long journey is brought to a brief halt by an old, decrepit looking man. He dressed himself in long, white robes, and you could barely see his face through his massive beard and incredibly bushy eyebrows. He seems quite interested in you at the moment, perhaps because you're the only one person passing this stretch of land at the moment
"Hello, traveler! It's nice to finally come across another soul on these long roads. The amount of people wandering about has diminished as of late, likely due to all the fighting going on recently. Oh? Haven't you heard? The old god has vanished! Pretenders and their faithful followers are taking up arms to claim the throne of god for themselves. It really is quite something. But, oh! Where are my manners! My name is Avanero of Man, might I ask what your name is?"
She looked over at the old man, and blinked. She nodded in agreement, it was an odd time to live in, and an even odder time to be exploring. Though, she hasn't really made up her mind on the situation. It's certainly chaotic.
“Y, yes, nice to meet you, my name is Laren.”
"Hm, that is indeed an interesting name. Might I be so brazen as to also ask where it is you're heading?"
"Y-yeah, it is," Laren said nervously, wondering if she should take it as a compliment or was damned with faint praise. It was certainly an odd, unusually simplistic name. A name was a relatively minor thing to be embarrassed by, though.
This old man seems awfully curious about her affairs, well, it would be rude to not answer, would it? She was sort of excited to speak about it. "Uh, I'm headed to Arcoscephale, to study the stars, I mean, and speak with those that can speak with the stars, if I can. I wish to learn more about the world too but I’m curious about those above the world. I thought it would be a good place to start, at least."
The old man seems quite elated at your willingness to answer his questions, and concentrates less on your answer and more on the fact that you answered him in the first place. "Ha! If only I was young enough to travel the world again. I fear this might be my last journey, traveler, and spending it talking with such nice folks is quite a boost to my spirit. Now, if I may ask, what exactly do you look like? An odd question, I know, but my eyes are failing me in my old age, and I can't quite make out your appearance."
“Uh, okay,” Laren said, coming her fingers to her deeply dark colored hair, “I, I have hair, it's all tied up together like in a braid, and, a face, with light colored eyes, and...” She glanced downwards, with tired, worried eyes, looking on what's on her person on the current time. “I’m wearing a shoulder bag, around my shoulder, and, uh, clothes.” Her descriptions, of course, weren't the best. She was wearing a relatively loose but thick, feminine tunic thing, with a plain scarf wrapped around her neck and head, and what seems to be a jacket around her, for warmth and protection, which covered her shoulder bag a little. She had leather boots on her shoes, as well. “A practical tunic, uh, a scarf, and boots. I’m a bit shorter than you, uh, and physically smaller too. I am fast though, surprisingly enough. Tan skin, freckled around my cheeks."
"If you could also tell me about yourself, that would be wonderful."
“It’s really, wow, do you really want to know? I’m, uh, an aspiring astronomer, and adventurer, who wishes to know more about the celestial bodies, and about the world outside my small but crowded city. They did have books, and I did have a telescope for use, I made a few notes and maps of the sky but, I feel it isn't enough, that I need to see the sky from different places, speak and interact with new people, broaden my horizons. That sort of thing.” She didn't really mention that she ran away, and left without a trace because she knew her parents wouldn't approve of her choice of personal study, but that wouldn't be important, wouldn't it? She did leave a note, and she was old enough to, but as the second to youngest, she didn't really have much inheritance of the items that she took.
The curious fellow listens carefully as you describe yourself, then glances down at your belt, as if interested in it. "As a final question, might I ask what exactly it is you have on your belt? Is it a pouch? Might I pry further and ask what's in the pouch? (Pocket contents and basic armaments; I.e a sword, a few coins, some pocket lint, etc)
“Well, what do you plan on doing with it?” Laren said, a bit defensive at this, clutching her shoulder bag. She smiled awkwardly, as she said, “Uh, it's actually a bag, filled with stuff for study! I, uh, have books, maps, compasses, dried up food, the mix.” She has a few books, some ‘borrowed’ from a local library, but the others from a bookshelf, enough coins to survive a few days, and a notepad, stuck within her bag, along with a few feathers. She also has an oddly fancy telescope, which closes up for portable use, along with a large, covered up knife, in which she doesn't plan to say. Goodness, she has a lot of stealable things. “I also have some cash, but it isn't much, and a canteen, too."
The man seems satisfied "That's all the questions I have for you, traveler. However, if you wish to tell me anything else, feel free to do so."
“Uh, thank you sir.”
The old man nods and offers you his thanks for entertaining all his questions. "A word of advice, lass. A sharp blade and some tea could help calm those nerves of yours. Stay safe." The man then continues his walk, until he is eventually out of sight. You're now left to your own once more as your travel towards Arcoscephale, in the hope you may continue your study of the stars. Luckily for you, the road around here seem to be safe, and well maintained, leading to no further unwanted stops or bumps.
After a few days of passing through farmland, long, barren stretches of road, and the occasional encounter with a merchant, you spot a city on the distance. Ithaca, the closest a star gazer can get to the stars themselves. Ithaca is built on a range of 6 hills, each one a little bit bigger than the last. A grand observatory palace rests on the highest hill, the hill of stars. Legend says these hills were formed when a star collided with this world many thousands of years ago. The impact formed five hills, and the earth formed around the star to create the sixth hill. The land seems to radiate with astral power. The buildings are all white stone, with flat or rounded roofs. Most of them are open air, with windows and doors left wide open, and a very welcoming feel to them. You notice a small pub near the towns entrance, and a few shops just beyond it. A winding path leads up the hills and towards the observatory, but it's unlikely that they'll let a fledgling waltz right in and say hello. You could still try your luck, however.
