A rare sight, you are, a female soldier on the Western edge of the Great Union, fighting nazi scum and somehow not getting raped by your male comrades. You have a rifle - Mosin's rifle - with sixty rounds of ammunition in clips, a canteen full of soon-to-go-bad milk, enough food for about two days, and several fellow soldiers in the room around you.
You happen to be on the fourth floor of what must have been an apartment building, overlooking a battle which is unfolding in the large, open plaza before you, outside the window. There are fascists on the opposite end of the fountain in the middle hiding behind a chest high stone wall, peeking out to shoot at the men at the base of your building, who also peek out to shoot back. There are also German soldiers on the road to the right of your building which are possibly flanking, but not shooting yet.
---
"Oh, devil, the radio is broken. We're not getting reinforcements."
"What do you mean it's broken?"
"It doesn't work. It could be frozen over, the parts could be cracked, I don't know, it doesn't matter, it's broken!"
"We better get the hell out of here, then! The enemy will have tanks here in ten minutes!"
"Well we've got to save the idiots down on the ground! We can't just let them die!"
The crack of a bullet coming through the window and passing next to your head then causes you to come back to reality. It is followed by about four more and you can't hear a damn think anymore. Everybody in the room is running out in their own directions, doing their own thing, trying to stay alive.
