Unfortunately you don't invent the ways the world works, nor are you exempt from it. Seriously. Stop telling people what is correct and what isn't. That's also coming from the dude who uses "aeroplane" when just about everyone else here uses "airplane". But that's a whole different story, I guess, so I'll leave it be. You have your ways and other people have theirs. Don't go around criticizing them for it. "Aeroplane" is a French loan word and as such should be spelt the way that it was when it was imported into English, much like how the word "Table" is not "Tabell". Loads of flaws with that logic. If we went by that English would not even be its own language. But it is, and therefore does not have to follow the rules of French or Latin or any other language just because you say so. Face it, your way of doing things isn't always right.

Face it, your way of doing things isn't always right. Keeping the original spelling makes it easier to deduce the etymology and as such the meaning simply from looking at the word alone. The best example I can think of to make my point is aluminium/aluminum. Dropping that second "i" in the American spelling is completely stupid because for the people who don't know what aluminium is it removes any hint of them being able to use the latin root word "ium", meaning "metal", to deduce that it's a metal of some sort.

if someone who doesn't know that aluminum is a metal just because it doesn't have that extra i, i'd be a little worried

if someone who doesn't know that aluminum is a metal just because it doesn't have that extra i, i'd be a little worried By that logic an asylum is also a metal, then.

It's to make spelling easier for Americans because they have a lower IQ on average.

if someone who doesn't know that aluminum is a metal just because it doesn't have that extra i, i'd be a little worried By that logic an asylum is also a metal, then. that's not my fucking logic tim my point was that most people have the prior knowledge to know that aluminum is a metal not all words have patterns that are easily able to be followed; for a lot of them it's just knowing what it means off the bat. you don't think "dog" and analyse the word's structure to figure out what it is you just know it means that one animal that people tag as "man's best friend" if you're going to criticize my logic, at least get my logic right before doing so
