This video appeared in my suggested feed due to some videos on linguistics that I watch occasionally and I think it's rather interesting.
I noticed that, for me at least, the more southern accents sounded almost American, RP and cockney sounded somewhat like how stereotypical Brits are portrayed in the mass media and the further north you go the harder it is to understand, until by around Yorkshire I thought it was a completely different language. The notable exception would be Ulster English which I thought was a bit of a strong accent but still definitively English (contrasted with Ulster Scots, immediately after it, and Scots in Scotland immediately before that). Your thoughts on the matter?

Dunno. Guess I'd have to agree with you. It gets progressively harder to understand in the north.

I think they should split up Wales a bit more. South Wales sounds quite a bit different to the North.
I wouldn't say the South is American sounding exactly though the North is certainly harder to understand. I'm from the RP/Cockney area so my accent would probably be regarded as the stereotypical sort though it has altered a little given my time in Australia.

The south sounds more American than than London does, but it's clearly not an American accent. Also, would you describe yourself as speaking Cockney or RP?

Lego will testify, as he's heard me speak, that I have a really thick northern Irish accent. It's as thick as Happy's 'locked out of roblox' thread. But I am not, nor ever will be Ulster Scot, unlike how my dad seems to insist. He thinks speaking Ulster Scot is keeping with his cultural and historical ties, but really he just sounds like a complete and utter numbskull. I mean, why do you think the Orks, one of the less intelligent races of Warhammer, are portrayed as having cockney accents?

The perception of Cockney in America is that of classy people and of Ulster Scots it's considered a completely different language. I guess that anything foreign is considered classy due to lack of sociolinguistic context in which to place the accent, right?

I read through it, and it nearly killed me. It was written entirely in Ulster Scot and it made me want to take the manuscript and burn it with holy promethium of the Emperor of Mankind it was that bad. It was so heretical, a goddamn Chaos Space Marine would say, "woah bro, calm down, you're going a little far." He never finished it, thankfully.

It may be Estuary, I'm not exactly sure. I'm from Essex which is very close to London though my parents are from elsewhere in the UK.
