Many religious people in religions like Catholicism believe in Original Sin.
Original Sin is what Adam and Eve did when they ate from the one tree that was off-limits and got the human race banished forever from paradise because of it. They also believe that everyone is born with original sin, and you can only get rid of it by being baptised.
My question is this: How could we possibly be guilty of original sin? We're not Adam and Eve. Nobody ate that fruit except for them.
And why do people get baptised, anyway? I mean, they said it's to cleanse people of their original sin. But why? That sin isn't theirs, for one thing. And for another, the consequences still stay.
The consequences for original sin were that humanity could never go back into the garden of Eden and that they would be self-conscious. People don't magigally become not self-conscious anymore or be transported into Eden. So everything stays the same. So why do people do it.
Religion is so full of crap sometimes.

People do it because there are a lot of similarities between humans and sheep. There are a few individuals who plan to have power, and sometimes they get that power. We call these people herd-leaders, because they have the support of so many regular sheeple. Herd-leaders are common in politics, business, and religion, and in fact it's nearly impossible to be a herd-leader without being connected to one or more of these three things.
The "Original Sin" is another way for herd-leaders to keep control over their flock.

To be honest, I agree with you. Some people believe in it, others don't. It doesn't really make much sense in my eyes, the original sin thing. But if people want to believe it, that's on them. There's quite a few things in religions that are rather questionable. It's bound to happen.

Isn't the garden of eden heaven or something? It would make sense. Like, you don't go back straight away, you have to show that repenting for original sin is really legit for real, but when you die you're allowed back in. Or I'm just really tired and haven't actually studied theology in any greater detail than what was required to study medieval European history and philosophy.
