One eye opens, and the other comes online. For a moment, you feel... strange. As though the universe took you in, examined you, and deemed you worthy. Improved to near-perfection, some parts replaced with mechanical parts, making you faster and stronger than your unimproved peers. Then the feeling fades, leaving you with a sense of longing, a wish to reunite yourself with that sense of belonging.
"What is your most useful trait? Strength, Endurance, Knowledge, or the ability to Change?"

"The ability to Change is powerful indeed. It is something all things must do, just to emerge from the primordial muck. If change did not happen, life would not exist. And life would not change, remaining stale forever. Perfection could never be achieved."
You live away from others. Technophobia is in the air. Machines, robots and computers, are accepted. You don't know a single person who doesn't use them. In rich houses, the occupants don't have to do anything. Just to sit back and let the robots feed them, comfort them, nurture them. They use their computers daily. Aliens, too, organic beings from other worlds, are widely accepted and travel between human colonies just as humans travel between theirs. Yet mixtures of the two: computers mixed with humans, creating something better, something more than either, is apparently wrong. You wanted this, you knew what was best for you. Yet no hospital would take you. The black market was your only option.
"So tell me. If Change is what makes all things go, then what is wrong with Change? What stops it from making a race of god-beings, who spread through the universe and control it? Is it Life, that makes itself imperfect so it may think it has become perfect? Is it Greed, which halts progress and turns brother against brother? Is it Progress, which takes the workings of a race and turns it to its own ends? Or is it Leadership, the direction of the herds by a single individual, who directs them on what to do and how to do it?"
