Ten years ago American society frowned upon same-sex marriage. Additionally, polygamy has traditionally been used for men to screw as many women as possible and to have as many slaves as possible rather than out of actual love as monogamous marriages tend to be nowadays. Point out that I'm comparing polygamy three thousand years ago to monogamy today and the vast difference in time as much as you like, society as a whole won't listen because they have the preconceived notion that polygamy leads to sexism.

Sometimes it's a genetic necessity. In Southwest Asia (The middle East) Polygamy is (or was) extremely common and encouraged in nomadic tribes, and often times they rarely boned.
