In the beginning of the Second Era of Azei, the first race of men, the Thaniren, had fallen at the hands of dragons. One lone family survived, descendants of the first King of Baelthaia. This family was the family of Aeragon, of Dunmír. Aeragon was an odd man, curious in his ways. Some said that seeing his entire race fall had driven him to insanity. Others simply said he was born mad, the son of a dragon, with some zaerk and lorhak relatives. He was not a full-blooded Thanir. His Thaniren blood came from his mother's side, and it was corrupted with various other races' blood. Anyway, he carried on his bloodlines, and his children had children, and so the Thaniren survived.
In other parts of the world, to the East, a new race had been born. They were the Êtiren, the second race of men. The Men of the East. The Lord Abrac had blessed them greatly, yet not as greatly as the Thaniren, who were nearly immortal. No, the Êtiren were nothing more than just animals with souls. In less than a thousand years they had formed a Kingdom, with their own languages and culture. This Kingdom was Aertir, and it was the first Kingdom of the West. They built a capital city and called it Leham, which meant in Êtir, "City of Ham," with Ham being their first King.
Soon they built ships, and sailed for the West. It was then that they had their first encounter with the Thaniren. Aeragon's descendants, led by Hazai, were in the middle of clearing a forest, when the Êtirs arrived. They had forgotten what a human was meant to look like, having so much mixed blood that they were no longer human themselves. And so, they treated the Êtiren as enemy invaders. In defense of Baelthaia, they fired arrows at the ship's crew, injuring many of them, and killing a few. The Aerteins opened fire with their cannons. Hazai, his brothers and his sons were wiped out in an instant.
The foreigners claimed the surrounding land, and called it Porthca Wels, meaning "Port of the West," in Êtir. They put up a city there, and many people came from Eastern ships to see the land. For seven years it stood there, a beacon that called to all those who seeked adventure. Then the Thanirs attacked, with an army of four thousand men. The battle became known as the Battle of Kandürebh, meaning "The Bloody River," in Quelëa. The battle took the lives of hundreds of men, though the exact number is not known. It was in the year 627 of the Second Era, and it is remembered to this day.
Back in the East, tensions were rising, and people were getting tired of their King. Civil war broke out between the North and South in Aertir. There were daily battles, scattered all across the continent of Argradon. This went on for many years, and the one Kingdom was split into two. The Kingdom of Aertir, of the North, and the Kingdom of Exon, of the South. They battled seemingly endlessly, until the year 652 of the Second Era. It was in 652, that Morras Aegelm united the two Kingdoms once more, and was crowned the King of Aertir, and King of Exon.
By the year 690 of the Second Era, Argradon had become overpopulated. So, they sailed again for the West. They took two fleets at a time, until they had brought sixteen thousand men to Baelthaia. They were allies, this time. They traded and shared the land, and it's resources. Everything was nice and peaceful. Until that is, the daughters of Baelthaia were with the Êtir men. The Thanirs grew angry with the Êtirs once more, and razed their cities to the ground. The Êtirs fought back. And by 716 of the Second Era, the Thaniren were no more. The women survived, but were taken as prisoners, and sold as slaves.
The children of the Thanirs and the Êtirs were kept as slaves as well, and they bred them with eachother. This new race was called the race of elves. And so, there was the end of the Thaniren, and the beginning of a new race.
