Let me just quickly say that I was a fan of Aquaman before he was in the Justice League movie. I wasn't able to read all of his comics because my parents wouldn't let me buy comics nor give me an allowance when I was younger, but I saw him in cartoons like Justice League and Young Justice and I managed to read a few of his comics, and I always thought that he was an interesting character with two interesting arch-nemeses and a great team dynamic with whoever he teamed up with, allowing for a lot of crossover. However, the entire DCEU so far was terrible and I'm afraid that they'll ruin his character even further than they ruined him in Justice League. In Justice League he wasn't actually a character; he was basically an extra in weird clothes with some lines. I don't know if they can make him worse than that, but given that each DCEU movie that I've seen has gotten progressively worse (Man of Steel was a bad superman movie, Batman v. Superman was even worse, Suicide Squad was hyped up as the movie that would be able to save the DCEU and then Justice League was arguable the worst superhero movie ever made) I suspect that they'll find a way to do so.

What did you think of the Wonder Woman film? And as an obvious fan of Aquaman what do you think of his actor Jason Momoa?
Personally, I’m not a massive fan of DC. I enjoy some characters here and there. I’ve always kind of been on the Marvel side of things despite them going through their own lows. Not that this is a battle between which one is better but it does fuel my opinion.
The problem that faces the DCEU is their insistence to copy and therefore rush into the Marvel formula. They wasted Superman’s death. They charged headfirst into their teamup film (which went through production hell). They didn’t give individual characters besides Wonder Woman time to grow. And they started with a Batman 20 odd years into being Batman. They missed the boat to compete with Marvel and shot themselves in the feet trying to catch up.
They didn’t need a Steppenwolf film that early. They should have at least placed the Aquaman film prior to the teamup along with a Flash or Batman solo. We know nothing of these characters because they don’t have one. Cyborg worked by being introduced in the film as he was intergral to the plot but there should have been a sniff of the others beforehand. But it didn’t matter anyway because they brought Superman back from the death and he won the battle for them which screwed any character growth they could have had. Superman’s death could have been about the world and other hero’s learning they didn’t need him to save the day. But instead he does it all for them. I don’t know, just wasn’t an enjoyable film in hindsight (especially with the brilliant Infinity War also in hindsight).

I didn't watch the Wonder Woman movie (it was the only one that I was successful in not being forced to endure, but now people are saying that it was actually good). I think Mamoa is a good actor, but Khal Drogo was the wrong casting choice for Aquaman. I preferred both Justin Hartley in the failed pilot and Alan Ritchson in Smallville. As far as the movies are concerned, Marvel is definitely better. I quite enjoyed the Arrowverse, but I haven't seen Arrow season 6 and the other seasons that came out at the same time. Marvel's Netflix shows are honestly a bit better, though. They didn't try to do the Marvel formula - each Avenger already had his own movie by The Avengers, whereas there was no Flash movie, no Cyborg movie and no Aquaman movie before Justice League. That said, there are plenty of "team-up" movies with ensemble casts that don't require movies to set up each character - Guardians of the Galaxy is a good example of this as a superhero film, but also other movies in other genres like Ocean's Eleven and the Ghostbusters. I do agree with all your complaints of Justice League, though. The way that they made the Justice League itself useless and wasted the Death of Superman arc was stupid, and the fact that they made Steppenwolf the main villain instead of Darkseid was just stupid.

Wonder Woman has been the best DCEU film so far. It’s not the best movie ever but it’s better than the rest. I know Momoa more as Ronan Dex from Stargate Atlantis than anything else. I also don’t know much of Aquaman so I don’t have a lot to go off there. Just because they didn’t do things exactly the same doesn’t mean they’re not trying to replicate Marvel’s success by using a successful formula. Hawkeye and Black Widow didn’t have a movie pre-Avengers. Scarlet Witch and Vision were introduced in Ultron. And then we got Black Panther and Spider-Man in Civil War. But all those introductions worked in team ups because they flowed into the movie. Cyborg worked the same in Justice League, honestly we didn’t need a solo film to have his story. We did for Aquaman and probably new Flash (would have been cool if they integrated the Flash from the series). I just feel they felt the need to rush into the teamup film which perhaps needed more of a build. But I’m not sure. But yeah, absolutely you don’t need solo films to build teamup films. I agree with you there and there are plenty of examples that work in that respect. So, yeah, you’re absolutely correct. With my grumbles aside I do feel that the DCEU needs the next couple of films to succeed to survive. And they need to be massive successes. They’ve had one win so far which isn’t great.

Have you seen Aquaman yet Tim? I still haven't. I'm scared. What if it's bad and I won't like it? I generally tend to pretend nowadays that DC just don't do live-action films.
