I messed up when shaving today. Here are some things that I did today that I should not have done: - Do not use a blunt razor
- Do not use a rusty razor
- Use shaving cream; don't just use water
- Don't put as much force as you possibly can into the razor
- Once you start bleeding, do not keep shaving
My face had a large cut and was bleeding for several hours because I shaved wrongly. Does anyone else have anything to add to this list?

Man... I cannot remember the last time I shaved, honestly. I've just used scissors to shape up my facial hair and turn my mutton chops back into sideburns for years now.
But the most important one you missed is hot water. As hot as you can stand, and then some. It makes the blade(s) glide more easily/smoothly. I also very strongly preferred a single blade over all the BS MACH 7-whatever that every brand is trying, now. Just seemed like a smoother cut and a much, much easier time cleaning it off.

Whelp, now you know why you cut yourself. I suppose my last post was a bit misleading, as I do tend to go over my cheeks once a few strays try to pop up, but I never use cream. Theoretically, get the water hot enough and, at least with a single blade, I never have any issues.
But yeah, cold water/skin will definitely drag more on the blade. I imagine it's something in relation to getting goosebumps; Your skin becomes more rigid when cold and thus, easier to catch.

I've got a few, although some are just some tips to make a tad bit more pleasant:
Do not shave like they do in the ads with those long, downward shaves. That is like your face begging to get a bad cut. Small and upwards shaves are best, since when you encounter the rare moment you cut yourself, it'll only be a small one. Actually, the only times I've cut myself doing that are around the lips when I wasn't careful (I have naturally large and plump lips so it's way too easy for me cut myself around them) and when my razor goes over a pimple I didn't notice. Not to mention I've noticed I have less of a chance to miss hairs on my face as the same area gets covered with a blade two or three times and the blade's moving in a direction that most hairs point towards.
After you finish shaving, take a small towel or washcloth and soak it only a little with that hot water Benzo mentioned earlier. Rub the areas of your neck and face that had shaving cream on them with the hot wet part of your cloth and it'll remove the sticky sensation from your face. I mainly mention because I believe that what most guys do is actually just splash water on their face after the shave to remove the excess shaving cream from their face. Alternatively, you could just take a shower after you finish shaving. I personally believe a shave before a shower is the best option.
If you have medium or long hair, make sure to tuck your hair behind your ears. This way the shaving cream doesn't get in the sides of your hair and makes a mess. Once more, you could just alternatively take a shower to remove that shaving cream from your hair, but as I have a habit of letting my hair grow out a bit, I can tell you that one of the most annoying things in the world is to move your hair away from where you're shaving as you'r actually shaving it.
Honestly, I think you guys probably know most of this already, but most guys don't usually talk in depth about this kind of stuff so you never know.

I can't help but wonder how you managed to mess up that bad on it.

I can't help but wonder how you managed to mess up that bad on it. That is a dangerous question. I've seen wise men mess up terribly on some pretty simple things. Although I'm seriously worried since Tim mentioned the blade was rusty. I hope he's had his tetnis shot.

Either way, I didn't bother getting any medical assistance at all other than putting on a band-aid, but I put on a band-aid, so I should be fine.

I can't help but wonder how you managed to mess up that bad on it. Well, the thing is, I only get a tiny bit of chin stubble and some peach fuzz on my cheeks and a couple hairs on my upper lip, so I don't really need to shave that often and when I do shave it's not that big a deal. Like, I've gone periods of a few months without shaving and only had a tiny bit of hair to show for it.

I haven't shaved since the start of July and even though I've managed to get a decent amount of facial hair, I've seen people grow twice this amount in two weeks. It's insane.

My grandfather served his entire time in the marines before he started shaving.

If you can even see the facial hair from my mugshot, that's about... Oh, maybe 5 years of growing or so? Lmao
Trimmed frequently, granted, but it's still thin as hell and only recently actually started looking halfway decent. (Imo) My damn sideburns grow and spread like wildfire, though. I turn into Jack the Ripper if I leave them alone for more than 2 weeks x.x

Am I the only guy that's never had to shave? Lucky. Wish I didn’t have to.

Am I the only guy that's never had to shave? If you're younger than your mid-20s, it's not unheard of.
