Die Hard

I'm sure we've all seen the debate folks get into regarding whether or not 'Die Hard' can classify as being a Christmas/Holiday film, eh? What're your houghts on this?


Personally, while it may have a Christmas theme to it, my argument has always been;
Literally no other Christmas movies have been released in the middle of July, so... It probably wasn't designed to be a Christmas piece upon release, otherwise that's just God awful planning and/or timing. And movies don't just change purpose after time; You can't look at a piece of fiction and call it a documentary five years later.

So, my final conclusion is; Hell no, Die Hard is not a Christmas film just because Christmas is a theme in the plot.

I think calling something a "Christmas movie" is kind of weird. A good movie would be much more than a "Christmas" movie, and honestly, if you're making a movie just for a holiday, it's probably only going to be watched for the sole purpose of the holiday. Like how they always play terrible Christmas covers just because they're about Christmas. It's stupid. Good movies and good songs are good no matter what time of the year it is. The only benefit I can see to labelling it with "Christmas" is increased sales rates in December.

Pfffft, let's be honest here; I love Home Alone, but I can't remember the last time I've watched it outside of December. But I definitely see the point; Honestly, my family doesn't celebrate outside of me cooking a turkey or ham.

The sad thing is, Christmas being a consumer holiday means it has a specific 'brand' so to speak. Because some folks out there see 'Christmas' and that's a good enough excuse to spend a little cash.
