"Uh... Too late, Robert! W-"
Your communication was cut off. Your CEM's screen is all of a sudden covered by devil emojis. A message pops up:
FUCK OFF
"Peku! What is this!?"
"I'm not the only one with a grudge, Kipo. I got to be friends with some great people."
"How did you even get out of jail?" Chess asks.
"I was housed in some place called Building 143. Some men snuck in, told us they would like Kaminski dead, organized an escape using almost all of 143's prisoners and gave us a ship and your destination. They said it was nothing personal, Kaminski just picked the wrong fight."
"Some men?"
"Divimadi, Kipo. We got help from the Divimadi."
Divimadi - The largest crime syndicate within Keeper space.

"That looks like a rather bad bullet wound in your shoulder there. I'll give you one last opportunity to call off your ship." If he does anything other than call off his ship I'll immediately grab him by the shoulder really hard, sticking my thumb into the wound opened by my gun in an attempt to put him in a lot of pain.

He spat in your face. Your thumb causes him what seems to clearly be a lot of pain, but he does nothing. The Ta are a proud people, and they've been known to die rather than give into torture. This isn't gonna get very far.

"Chess, convince your friend to stop firing on our ship."

"Leff!"
That got the Ta's attention. He seemed quite clearly offended by that name.
"The human, Andrea Weber, is protected by right of nayu."
"Andrea's dead. Those damn idiots Dropped her," Peku replies.
"Andrea's very much alive. And she's on our ship. If you destroy it now, you'll be defying nayu, a status higher than ko. Remember our traditions, Peku."
The Ta grimaces.
"Fine. Give me evidence and I'll call off my ship."
"Peku! Would I lie to you!?"
Peku growls.
"Fine! I'll call off my ship," he says, before looking at Chess. "Nayu only works once when it gets in the way of ko, Kipo. We will come after you, even if we die trying. Now let me go. My crew isn't subject to my race's dogmas. Even if I call them off, if I don't return they'll continue anyways."
Chess looks at you. From his expression this was the best he could manage.

"Go call off your friends," I say to the Ta, allowing him to leave. "How do you two know eachother?" I ask Chess.

The Ta runs off into the rocks. It wouldn't be for a few more minutes until you here the sound of a shuttle taking off. Before then, you received a text communication from Henry. Everything was alright, and the attacking ship, identified as the 286th, stopped it's attack and hid away. It was good that this happened, as for some reason there was a massive connection failure, effectively disabling all of the Magellan's function and blocking all communications that it tried to send. Of course, no one knows if the attacking ship had a technomancer, and to be fair, a technomancer couldn't do things like that, not even Andrea. At least, as far as you know.
"As I said, we got into a peculiar kind of trouble, and didn't get out of it until four years ago."
"And would you mind telling what kind of trouble that was?"
"No. It is unimportant, and very unpleasant to think about. If it becomes important, then I'll share my story, but until then, it is important that we deal with the important matter at hand: We're stranded in a desert region. I'll go check on the shuttle to see if it sent a distress signal. It is standard for shuttles to carry such things, after all."
Chess walks off towards the shuttle.
"I'd say it was important," Jakti tells you. "My arm implants froze when Chess and I fought that big guy, but all of a sudden, they started working just long enough for us to take him down. My implants don't have auto repair functions."

"That's rather odd. I agree that we nees to find out what his relationship, both with our attackers and our prisoner, is, though I also agree that getting out of this alive is our main priority for now."

Chess returns, but with an odd figure behind him. It's the governor, riding a hover vehicle of sorts. It looks like it's intended to carry multiple people at once.
"I found him on my way to the shuttle," Chess explains.
"How did you know?" Jakti asks.
"How? Because I got word that the other side of the colony was getting very weird threats from an unknown source just after you guys left. They stopped some time ago, but I figured to check on the transport shuttle, it's an old tip that someone gave me for these situations. The sign read that there was damage and a distress signal was sent out, so I came here to pick you three up."

"So what happens with the jumper coil now?" Jakti asks.
"Worry about that later. Get on board."
The governor takes the three of you back to his bar, where you meet Miranda and Clare.
"Captain! I heard about the attack. Are you fine?" Miranda asks.

Miranda looks over to Jakti.
"Will you live?" she asks.
"Uh... I think so?"
"Good. Anyways, Captain-"
"That was kinda cold..."
"Henry sent a message concerning this enemy ship. He has contacted Drake to see if he knew anything about this, and Drake replied by saying that he'll check the files his friends gave him before we left. We should expect a report from Drake sometime soon. In the meantime, I would suggest we hurry up here," Miranda explains, completely ignoring Jakti's remark.

"Governor, do you still need the wood for your renovations?"

"Not really. I was just having you guys do that cause I thought it would be easy. Take it," he says, putting the coil on the counter.
"Really?" Clare asks.
"Yeah. It was meant for you guys anyways."
"What?"
"A long time ago, about seven years, I believe, some elderly Zathrelle came by here. He didn't give me his name, but he gave me this jumper coil and told me your ship's name, it's mission and even your name, Captain Edwards. He said that in some time you guys would visit and that I would give this to you in return for you doing me a favor."
"Now that's weird," Jakti replies.
"It gets even weirder. He was also the one who told me that whenever I received a threat, the first thing I should do is check the transport shuttle. It would've been a much longer time trying to get you guys help if it wasn't for that tip. Anyways, the two you left behind here finished the cleaning, so I'll consider the favor good and done."

"A Zathrelle? From the KOMC? How many people like you are there who left Keeper space without the knowledge of the Keepers?"

"No one else as far as I know. Only story you've ever heard about the outside of what's known is probably concerning the Helpers. And as for that I say that while they've become like boogeymen, I've never seen any traces of them out here. What I do know is that the Zathrelle didn't come from Keeper space. His ship jumped here from the opposite direction and jumped out as soon as it came. It's weird, too. He came just a month after I founded this colony and knew exactly where it was. He also gave me these," the governor says, pulling out a small datafile.
"What's on this?" Miranda asks.
"Language files from the other races. It doesn't say who speaks what and it won't be really necessary as somehow Standard has gone outside of Keeper space and is widely used by the outer races of the galaxy, but you never know when you might need it, and the program's set to identify automatically."

"Standard was created by constituent races of the KOMC. How did the language of one of what I'll assume to be the most isolated nations there is come to be used throughout the galaxy by foreign cultures who have not made their presence known to the originators of the language?"

(*Actually, Standard is completely different from English. You'll find later some human characters will talk to you specifically in English to avoid aliens from eavesdropping. We talk in English for this RP for reason of convenience. Standard was developed by the K'Talun, the Huloon and the Nythki for inter-racial trading and communication purposes about a century or so before the Helper wars.)
"No clue. Granted, the outside races know more about us then we do them, and they've adopted and even advanced most of the Keeper's technology. We've been so busy with what's inside that we haven't even taken the chance to see that we may very well be becoming the small dogs of the galaxy."

"They'll need to these coming years," the governor replies.
"Meaning?"
"What else? War. We've fallen behind some of the other races in terms of technology. Our one saving grace is that the Keepers are an alliance. In theory, if the Keepers are endangered the component races will assist. While some races won't actually help at all, we should easily have enough forces to scare off most races. The only problem is when we lose that advantage. That'll be the fall of KOMC I tell you: It became weak and was taken over."

"From the sounds of things the technological gap will soon be large enough that the population advantage is worthless."
