i honestly have allot of mixed feelings about the first episode- it some places it really felt unstructured and poorly written but i think they've set up bill as the new companion quite nicely. her comedy and down to earth nature is a nice change from the clara/doctor relationship which was like two alphas who constantly tried to be The Best Friend In The Whole Universe. some slightly negative things that i noticed were (kinda spoilery ) - steven moffat cannot be subtle about anything that fuels his ego, aka BILL IS GAY LOOK HOW PROGRESSIVE THE BBC IS AFTER 10 SEASONS OF DOCTOR WHO, GAZE UPON A LONG TERM HOMOSEXUAL COMPANION!!1! for me jenny and vastra didn't really count as good lgbt representation due to their servant/master dynamic (not kinky, vastra actually viewed jenny as someone lower than he due to jenny's class and position ew) and i pray bill doesn't get any of that treatment.
- the "monster" seemed really alike in design compared to one from the doctor who novel "the feast of the drowned" (victim's dead lover/friend gets possessed by sentient water and won't stop perusing victim until they too succumb to the water) however this has happened before (series 6, episode 11, the god complex, has both a setting and plot akin to the doctor who novel "the forever trap") so i guess it's not that big a deal
- nardole is a boring character and the only thing to be unpacked from him is whether he might be a robot or not. that's it. there's nothing good to his character, i don't really understand what reasoning steven moffat had for putting him in the season ten line apart from the fact he's cheap comedy.
however, seeing the chance of john simm returning as the master has my hopes up, though i have no clue how they'll integrate him in without some proper bullshit due to the fact we have "missy". neverless, whatever happens in season 10 it's going to be big and flashy- steven moffat wants his last season to be remembered. anybody else got any opinions on the new season?

Season ten came out quite a while ago; during the Jon Pertwee days, if I'm not mistaken.

I am aware of that, Duck, but pay attention to the title and notice how it states "season" instead of "series".

Bill reminded quite a bit of Donna which is quite a nice change. I also quite like that we won't be getting a companion/doctor relationship subplot this series which has been rather overdone. I just hope as you do that Bill's sexuality isn't laid on to hard in future episodes. Overall, I quite enjoyed the episode. It was never going to be Heaven Sent level but as a series opener/companion introduction/ jumping in episode it worked quite well. The Doctor played off Bill quite well and I even liked Nardole, though I hope they use him more so we get more out of him. I was actually reminded of the Waters of Mars monster in this episode. Yeah, it wasn't blatant but it certainly seemed similar. I liked that we got to see a bit of the Dalek-Movellan war, to some of course it may seem like the Time War but that's timelocked. Though Steven Moffat seems to hate the Daleks by having his new monster take one out pretty simply (though it is sentient oil I suppose). As for John Simm I feel we may finally witness his regeneration. It would make sense as we've never seen it and it wouldn't require any 'bullshit' to show. Mondasian Cybermen also look pretty cool. Then there's whatever's in that vault at the university. Just please no Kill the Moon/Forest of the Night type episodes this series. Series 9 was much better than 8, I hope the momentum continues.
