I just wanted to gather a general idea about the majority of the forum's political standings, as I believe it'd be a nice understanding for the type of political debates that can be held here without things going awry. And if you don't believe you recognize yourself with the listed political ideologies, please specify what you more formally stand with in your post below. If you're unsure exactly where you stand on the political compass (left, right, liberal, conservative) I'll provide a link for you below for the Political Compass Test. Please respect everyone in the thread and make sure that any dialogue that happens below remains civil and doesn't infringe on anyone's personal being (insulting who they are instead of presenting a valid argument for the discussion). And a reminder: you DON'T have to answer the question. I'm not trying to force anything upon anyone because it's exceedingly annoying. You can just casually breeze on by the poll, grab a bucket of popcorn, and see the political debates in the posts below [if there is any]. And remember, have a nice day! Political Compass basic information: www.politicalcompass.org/Political Compass Test link: www.politicalcompass.org/test EDIT: After briefly reviewing this passage, I left out in the original text that POLITICAL PARTIES (Republics, Democrats, Libertarians, Scottish National Party, Labour Party, etc.) DO NOT define where you stand with a political ideology. Because even in organizations like the GOP (Republicans), there are people like liberal conservatives, neoconservatives, ultra conservatives. Albeit yes, a majority of American (United States) Republics are conservatives, that doesn't mean that all of them are. I just wanted to stress this point before anyone go confused! Thank you!

second thing, is there a significant difference between left and liberal? Essentially yes. Generally speaking, all liberals are leftists, but not all leftists are liberals, in the same way that not all right leaning folks are conservatives. Liberals and conservatives are more on the far side of the spectrum, while just leaning left or right puts you more towards the center.

Well with classical and modern liberalism, there's a larger basis on abiding by the Constitution and thoughts of liberty as well as care for the people and ensuring rights for everyone, creating an egalitarian utopia.
Meanwhile, there's a neo-leftist ideology that's beginning to emerge here in the past semi-decade. It's tied in with 3rd-wave Feminism and has ties with the BLM Movement and Antifa. These leftists are the ones rioting in the streets, burning down local businesses, and denouncing the Trump administration. Many conservatives and those on the right wing of the political compass associate these neo-leftists with liberals, although that's truly not what they are. It's an extension of liberalism, like Catholicism and Protestantism are of Christianity, except it's very radical. If you think about it, it's the Westernized version of ISIL/ISIS/IS, except they aren't toting around guns, beheading citizens, and silencing reporters.
Leftists are SJWs that practice free speech, which is perfectly legal and fine and doesn't bother anyone but also participate in violent protests, and political violence. BuzzFeed is a clear advocate of this neo-leftist ideology as well as the Huffington Post while Breitbart News is an Alt-Right media outlet (Milo Yiannopoulos was formerly a senior editor for them.) When you look on websites like Imgur, 4chan, HDL, and 9gag, iFunny, you'll see many people who are Alt-Right who are also "memers". Although, on HDL you'll find more fascism and Nazism and they don't really represent the Alt-Right.
tl;dr Leftist is a new radical social philosophy that encompasses the rioters and protestors. Organizations represented by the Leftists are organizations such as; Antifa, BLM, and the new wave of feminism curling over the horizon. Liberals are those who believe in equality and that the government should represent and uphold ethical rights for the betterment of United States citizens.

I believe in equality and that the government should represent and uphold ethical rights for the betterment of United States citizens, I don't like rioting, and although I support transgenderism and non-genetic gender identity, there's two genders, (not including people with no gender identity).
I guess I'd call it Emma Watson leftism.

I'm a moderate. You don't have that option in your poll.

as terrible as politics is, it's pretty important and unwise to ignore, so i wouldn't say "fuck politics" so eagerly You understand the American view on politics I understand an Irish view on politics My view is common throughout Northern Ireland because it has screwed over this country more than it has helped it. We had a 65% turnout for voters, which includes the south. I know America had just over 60% I believe, America is huge compared to Northern Ireland. You could fit our country over a hundred times into America- so this figure is rather bad. Even then, a majority of those who do vote still think Politics fuck over this country, they're just voting for the best of the worst. There is no 'good' party in this country; only slightly less shit ones. So yes- I myself would say 'fuck politics' so eagerly.

I don't think I can fully align with any ideology or movement. None really speaks for me 100%. Sure, I could be wrong, but I just don't feel identified.

Eh, I just disagree with a lot of mainstream libertarian views that everyone should just do stuff for themselves. Like, a centralized system for stuff like healthcare makes a lot of sense.
