So many of you may know that, although I'm an American citizen, I reside outside of America. As such I know very little about what people are learning in the great united states (I only called it great because it rhymes, it is not my personal opinion). However, I have an interest in mathematics, and I watch some youtube videos about the subject. I came across a video the other day about Common Core and decided to start doing some research into it myself.
I do not think that the common core methods are invalid. I will admit that the sources that I look for only supply examples of adults struggling to do subtraction and addition and whatnot using common core (so please send me examples of your common core mathematics so that I can take a better look at it at higher levels), and I will admit that the methods are not the most efficient. Some of the methodology, in fact, helps quite a lot with understanding the underlying mathematics behind borrowing (although there are simpler methods). What irks me about what I've seen of common core is that apparently you can be marked incorrect if you get the right answer but work it out the wrong way. If it's a valid, mathematical methodology to employ to solve a mathematical problem (however you do your addition or subtraction) it should be counted as a valid answer.
I don't really know that much on the topic of common core but just take pictures of excerpts from your textbooks or whatnot for me to read please because I really am rather curious about what it's like at a higher level.

Well, as of right now in my Algebra I class, we're reviewing slope, except now we're going over graphing linear equations and finding slope using equations.

Are you learning it in the normal way or in some strange common core way? If it's some strange common core way, take pictures of your textbook for me to see please.

Common core is just shit in general Punishes kids who don't learn as quickly as others more then the school system already does Punishes teachers if too many of their students fail a test And because you need to cram so much information for the god damn tests, learning becomes an exercise in quick memorization rather then anything more permanent It's a fucking awful system

The US has pretty shit public education, for all its 'superpower' status.
Sounds like a shit system in general, from the perspective of an outsider. Must be shittier when you're part of it.

The education system is utter nonsense and forces teacher to create unnecessary tests in order to keep their paycheck.
If your looking for "great" or "effective" education I suggest looking towards Western Europe as they seem to have a lot of shit figured out

And even further east also try Russia. Because Russia has a better education system than America apparently.

Ooh some of my American friends have shown me all that common core crap, it's truly a bullshit level of stupid.

Yes, I see common core subtraction all the time on the internet. What I want to see is common core algebra, common core trigonometry - the stuff for people my age.

I've never seen anything like that subtraction before.

Actually, probably worse, if you consider that not only would you be doing bad advanced math, but within that math bad basics as well, seeing as math tends to build upon itself.

I feel bad about common core. united states keeps taking money from education so the politicians can bribe themselves.

Not all common core techniques are implemented everywhere, though. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure math classes would be weird as hell.

i just enjoy trying to understand the over complicated bullshit on the papers and then listening to the teacher explain it in words that actually make sense to 13 year old children

I wish the teachers more thoroughly explained the reasons behind what they teach instead of just telling you to memorize it.

Telling people to just memorize it is easier for them, though, so.

That has to be the most retarded method of substraction ever. Who the fuck even bothers doing that?
If you can't substract by any method at age 6, you're unfit at anything ever.

Telling people to just memorize it is easier for them, though, so. Even easier is the method my teacher uses. "Hey, so there's this formula that you can use to automatically solve all quadratic equations, but, uh, I forget it, so work it out yourself please." I ended up coming up with and proving the quadratic equation with only the slightest bit of inspiration. Edit: In case you're wondering, try completing the square from a generalized ax^2+bx+c=0 and then proceed to make x the subject of the equation.
