Ossen 1814
In the year of Our Lord, Pope Chauvet XVI, the world is surely turning for anew. The Christian kings are warring, a serious horde creeps in from the east, and the fall of an empire is afoot. But alas, the embers of humanity is blossoming, and education is at its peak. The Dark Ages have ended, and Enlightenment has come! Scholars now affiliate themselves with alchemy and research to give power to their lords, and to supply the Pope in his Crusades. But a schism between the Pope and the pagan Northern Lords have left Ossen divided. The civilizations of the Kucuturan Isle are beginning to unite to reclaim jewels stolen from them south of their borders, but are also planning an invasion of Ossen. Prophets tell of blood turning the oceans red, and the endless suffering of those less advanced than Ossenensian s.
Map of Ossen
Factions:
Kingdom of Conwy: The Kingdom of Conwy, led by King Lycaon the Exalted, is a civilization that used to be a part of the Ossenensian Empire. After the War of Titans, the Ossenensians fled to the Isle of Kucutura and founded Ancaster, a city 500 years old. But when a group of Jewish extremists that did not agree with the Christians performed a coup, the Ossenensians were forced to retreat to the Cicerah Archipelago with the bastard son of King Themistius. They founded Tyisurria and slowly conquered the entire archipelago until they formed the Kingdom of Conwy. The Conwanians have naturally-occurring sugarcane and strawberries but still, have a subpar economy. Due to the Conwanians being opposed to the mainlanders and the inhabitants of the Isle of Kucutura, they only trade internally. Currently, the Conwanians are at war with the Kingdom of Khoto, which took over Ancaster.
Kingdom of Khoto: The Kingdom of Khoto is led by Rabbi Dakar ben Yoram, a Jew that is a direct descendant of Siel ben Ayleen, who organized the coup against the Ossenensians in 1462. The Khoensians are ruthless after they desecrated the chapels and churches in Ancaster and then proceeded to gather all of the pregnant Christian women in a cathedral and burned down the cathedral. Afterward, they formed a militarized clergy that would patrol the streets of Ancaster and kill, torture, or beat those who weren't Jewish. Although these doctrines are not common at all throughout the rest of the world, these extremists have been excommunicated by a council of rabbis in Ossen. Recently, the Khoensians have invaded the island of Hyht, which is owned by the Conwanians, which is the Tyeolae colony.
Graliskë Steppe Tribes: The Graliskë Steppe Tribes are a group of barbaric tribes who often pillage Khoensian caravans and raid their villages. Notable figures include Grovvar the Skullcrusher, Ardoggor the Terrible, and Krumar the Widowmaker. These rutheless warriors are actually employed occasionally by the Khoensians to help guard the Khoensian colony in Hyht, but are often captured by Conwanians and turned into slaves and examples, whom's heads are placed on spikes at the beach where the Khoensians land.
Eskiyurt Vale: The Eskiyurt Vale is the northernmost civilization in the Isle of Kucutura. It's led by Earl Mìcheal MacAmhlaidh of Alva, who waged war against the Khoensians when they stole his daughter from Eskiyurt three decades ago. Since then, the Earl and Rabbi have made peace and even have trade agreements between the two kingdoms. Although behind the back of Rabbi Dakar ben Yoram, Earl MacAmhlaidh has been importing soldiers from Ossen to prepare for a siege of Ancaster. The economy is the Eskiyurt Vale is decent, actually due to their jade jewelry and other precious gems.
Haukadalur Sovereignty: The Haukadalur Sovereignty is led by Jarl Hrossketil, a pagan. Because the Haukadaluins are pagans, they've been declared enemies of God. This policy goes the same for the other Northern Kings. Many of the Christian states are preparing to annex the north for the Pope. But the Northerners are fearsome warriors. Two-hundred years ago, the Christian kings tried to invade the north with 10,000 men but were repelled by a mere 2,000 Northerners at the Red Pass. The Astler Longbowmen of Álftanes were one of the major contributing factors to the success of the Northerners. The Haukadalur Sovereignty is the leading northern nation in masonry, though, and the combined efforts of the Northern Kings are preparing castles across the roads to prepare for a second invasion.
Álftanes Hold: Álftanes is ruled by Öberjarl Ingjald, a just and fair man. Álftanes' Castle is built inside of a mountain, but the town spreads for miles around it. Álftanes is known as one of the most fortified towns in the entirety of Ossen. The walls are 450 feet tall (137.16 meters) and 3.5 feet thick (~1.067 meters) with slits in them to drop boiling oil down on attackers. The renowned Astler Longbowmen of Álftanes also patrol the 120-mile (~193.1 kilometers) long wall. Plus the excellent craftsmanship of the gates and towers result in impeccable defense. The castle built into the mountain is where Öberjarl Ingjald resides with his cabinet. The best part about the castle is the only way to the entrance is in the deepest part of the city, which has multiple gates leading up to it. The Álftanesensian economy is dominated by ironworks and mercenaries that are rented out to other Northern armies.
Ögur: Ögur is a city-state ruled by Jarl Jokul who's economy is centered around iron and steel, which they send to Álftanes. Ögur is home to a multitude of great tacticians and has one of the most prestigious universities in the entirety of Ossen, even though they're pagan. Ögur is the only northern kingdom that Christians tolerate due to their scholarship and the Christian kings want to educate their heirs in tactics and other things. Ögur is easily the richest northern kingdom because of this. Jarl Jokul has even had private meetings with the Pope.
Cicavom: Cicavom is the central trading hub of Ossen, due to its' centralized position. It's led by a council of merchants and the captain of the guard. Cicavom is mostly Christian but accepts pagans, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc. The walls are made of marble and the slavers in Cicavom have trained an elite group of warriors simply known as the Enforcers. They often patrol the streets and alleyways of Cicavom and have never disobeyed an order. The most recent record of the number is that there are 30,000 Enforcers in the palm of the Cicavom leaders.
State of Bellis: Bellis is a small kingdom encompassing a few castles and some villages. It's ruled by King Hewse III of Bellis and Queen Artiga of Bellis, with their heir, Prince Oliverus. Although small, Bellitians have superbly fertile lands which administer a majority of food for Ossen. Although, the defenses of Bellis are pretty weak, with only a few castles with small garrisons of around 50 men each that often struggle to maintain the castles. A majority of guards in the capital, Bellis, are Rodsam Knights from the Holy Empire of Tinkovtsy.
Degutaliai: Degutaliai is an abandoned castle conquered by a group of bandits, who are formally calling themselves the Ator Order. They're not usually formally recognized as a nation anyhow, and the Christian kings are too busy with war to reconquer the castle, which provides no clear strategic position.
Principality of Kariakou: The Principality of Kariakou is ruled by Prince Braschi. Kariakese longships often patrol the Aqynt River pillaging coastal villages and bringing the loot back to Kariakou. Although, the Kariakese don't need to raid these coastal villages. They Kariakese are known for their remarkable muskets and speedy horses. The Kariakese are very rich due to the Christian kings constantly wanting more and more musketeers and horses.
Saïdan Imperium: The Saïdan Imperium is ruled by Sultan Yazeshni. The Saïdan Imperium is the only other nation than the Khwelegyii Empire that is recognized as Muslim. Due to them being Muslim, they were declared an enemy of God by the Pope five hundred years ago. Often raided by Christian kings and has been declared war on multiple times, one astounding feat of the Saïdan Imperium is that Saïdan itself has never been conquered or sacked. The economy of the Saïdan Imperium is crippling due to them not being able to trade with anyone except the Khwelegyii Empire.
Khwelegyii Empire: The Khwelegyii Empire is older than the Holy Empire. It was first created when eastern settlers moved to Ossen. Rumored to be over 6,000 years old, the Khwelegyii Empire is Muslim. The only reason why anyone tolerates the Khwelegyii Empire's Muslims is because they're recognized as an ancestral place. The Pope and Emperor Karnaark have actually had multiple private meetings. It's almost as if they were friends, but there are rumors that Khwelegyii Empire is conspiring with other eastern civilizations to invade Ossen.
Banderas: Banderas is ruled by a council of merchants. Banderas used to apart of the Khwelegyii Empire, but they bought the land from the Khwelegyii. Banderas is one of the only places in Ossen with sulfur mines and one of the leading producers of gunpowder in Ossen. Much like the Principality of Kariakou, the Christian kings often buy hundreds of pounds of gunpowder a month to keep their armies supplied. Banderas also funds the rebellion in Čistec against the Khwelegyii Empire, often supplying muskets and gunpowder discretely.
Čistec Duchy: The Čistec Duchy is ruled by the Duke Willet Fiacconi of the Greater Commons. The Čistec Duchy seceded from the Khwelegyii Empire after a bloody rebellion. At a certain point, the Khwelegyii Empire agreed to a peace treaty giving the Čistec Duchy a very small portion of land in the southern tip of their empire. Over the course of the next few decades, the Emperor prepared his forces for another incision to reclaim their land. But in order to reach the Duchy, they had to get past the borders of Banderas, and that wasn't going to happen. Ever since the Čistec Duchy and Banderas have had a very close alliance.
Holy Empire of Tinkovtsy: The Holy Empire of Tinkovtsy is 4,543 years old. It's always had a grand cathedral but the Pope wasn't recognized by the majority of Ossen as an overall leader until 1,000 years ago. The Holy Empire was a major factor in the creation of the Kingdom of Conwy. At first, the Holy Empire was just a city-state of Tinkovtsy. The Rodsam Order of Chivalry was the backbone of the Tinkovtian military. Known as the Righteous Titan, God-King Godfree Labouré intended to unite Ossen through conquest. He led the Rodsam Knights and the bannermen of Tinkovtsy to the mainland and began his campaign. The Ossenensian Empire fought back relentlessly but as more and more Christians began to support Godfree, the Ossenensians were forced to retreat to the Isle of Kucutura and founded Ancaster. Now the Rodsam Order of Chivalry is renamed to the Papal Order of Rodsam and the Papal Palace was built in Tinkovtsy.
