It was at the crack of dawn, the sun was just beginning to pop out, and glowed bright with a rainbow of colors.
The faint light hit a small building with a small glow creeping into the holes in it's rugged brown roof.
Watching the sunrise from that roof were two people a young girl with long jet black hair no older then ten, and a older man who's had a graying large beard that spread across his face.
The older man cleared his throat, and looked at the sunset with a steady glance.
" Look closely at the sunshine old daughter of mine." He said in a voice that seemed friendly yet wise.
" I'm looking, but my eyes hurt." The girl whined.
" That's normal at first, but is a simple trial. You must look closely, use your eyes." He continued
" I thought this was supposed to be fun?" The girl inquired
The man shook his head and took a drink from a cup.
" I never said magic was fun, I said it was magical." He said
" Isn't that like calling a apple, fruity?" She asked
" No, it would be more like calling you bratty. Now look!" He put emphasis on the last word
He pointed at the sun, and began to explain the meaning of each color.
Red represented power, the reason many tried to learn magic before him.
Blue represented control, and how you needed a certain flow to use said power.
Green represented the Earth, the source of all magic.
" With these three colors your magical potential will be limitless." He said pointing out each color with incredible meaning.
" What about the other colors? " she asked
" Those are important, but you'll need to discover those yourself when you're ready." He mused
" When will I be ready?" She asked once more
" Hell if I know, that's for yourself to figure out." He said this breaking his sage-like form.
" My dad told you not to swear! I'm going to tell." She yelled out
" Your dad also said I should show you some magic." The sage said
Like a flash of lightning, a bulb of bright blue light formed in his hands. It crackled and moved wildly in his hand, then like another flash he closed his hand and the light disappear into the darkness.
" There, that was our lesson for today run along little one." The sage said
" Aw, but you didn't even do anything." She whined
"Fine, fine I'll show you more magic tomorrow but remember we must be careful. Your father would forgive me if we were caught, and your mother? Her wraith scares me more then anything."
He grabbed the girl and jumped down from the roof, landing with grace.
" Now run along now, make sure to get a good rest."
He watched her run back home and he gave a breath of relief.
Such innocence, he thought to himself. Just wants to see a few magic tricks and have some fun, not knowing how much danger she's in.
He took another breath and stared across the village, and his purple eyes began to glow with menacing light.
He looked around and his eyes saw all, he saw the sleeping commoners in their beds, he saw the smallest cracks in the roads and he saw a spy watching him.
"Reveal yourself and this will be much easier!" He yelled out.
He saw the spy attempted to sneak out, and sighed thinking to himself, oh look another fool.
" I warned you!"
His eyes glowed brighter and the spy's legs began to feel a intense stiffness, as if his legs were made of bricks forcing him into place.
The sage walked up to the man glaring him looking him up and down, taking note of his mask.
" Your more then an spy, from the markings on your mask your an assassin to."
The spy shook his head rapidly.
" So who were planning to kill? The girl or me?"
The spy stammered his words to near gibberish.
"Speak the king's language damnit!" The sage yells
The spy wiped off his sweat and looked at the sage with fear in his eyes.
"I uh, uh came for the witches. I came for the witches."
The sage laughed heartily and smiled widely.
"Well that's good news I am a warlock, and that girl isn't a witch yet! Why didn't you just say so?"
The spy started laughing with him.
"S-so your not going to kill me?"
"Of course not! Although I have a request. "
"What is it?"
"I want you to go home, and tell your king that a warlock and a witch-in-training live here."
"Why? Don't you want to live in secret?"
" No. I want to live in public without getting spied on! Tell your king to bring his whole force, and I'll let you live."
The spy looked around before glaring at the sage.
"That's treason! If I betray my king he'll kill me."
The sage voice suddenly has a morbid sense to it.
" You won't live to long if you don't follow me either."
The spy sighed and agreed to help the sage, the sage waved him off and smiled.
"And if you don't come back with a army, I'll find you!"
