As many of us are either teenagers, have lived through teenagerdom, or are on the cusp of it, I ask this question; what do you think are some teenager milestones? Both ' official ' and unofficial.

13, 16, and 18. is this what you mean by milestones Kinda, but I mean like, actual things. Not just ages. For example - driving. Since the legal age is sixteen in most parts of America, it would probably be considered a milestone to hit that age and get a license. That might be an official milestone - hitting that age and such? Unofficial would be like, hmmm, i don't know.

I don't fucking know, getting a girlfriend/boyfriend. That seems to be a pretty common milestone for teens.

First drink. In many parts of the world (not America and not most islamic nations, but basically everywhere else) the minimum drinking age for wines, beers and ciders can be as low as 14 and rarely higher than 16 (hard liquors such as vodka and whiskey are still 18 in most places though). Additionally, parents may allow their children to "try just a sip of beer to see if they like it" before the minimum drinking age, and anyone with a television knows that many American teenagers use fake IDs to illegally purchase alcoholic beverages.

Of course that still does not change the fact that 18 is the almost consensual minimum age (apart from the countries you mention. Though America doesn't use the metric system either because they enjoy being different ). But yeah what people do in their own homes can't really be moderated unless we lived in 1984 so loads of teenagers would have had their first drink before that age (Not that its to much of a problem anyway).

Though it's 18 for any drink when it comes to a minor acquiring it themselves. Though like I said before the age is lower when accompanied by an adult. Trust me I've been to France quite a number of times and also googled it. Yeah, the first article states what you have said though that was made in 2006 three years before the law change.

Well I just went to Vienna a few weeks ago and went to a restaurant. They offered me a drink, I stated my age (16) and they offered me an alcoholic beverage again. That means that at least in Austria the drinking age is 16 or lower, or they're just super lenient about that kind of stuff. I assume that much of Europe is similar. Edit: Just google searched it, Austria is the same as what I said France is.

Looking it up 61% of the world have a drinking age of 18 or 19.

I found a big list and a map. Edit: Just noticed your edit; either way, America is still unnaturally high.

The 5 for the UK is private premises only (and very limited supply naturally) I believe though we can't buy until we're 18 or 16 with a meal and an adult present. I think I've found a similar map.

Apparently America is technically on a state-by-state level but there's a federal law cutting 10% of federal highway funds to states that set it above 21 which is just fucking stupid.
