While I agree that the books are better than the movies in most cases (I think the death of a certain Owl was better in the film than the book) this is an interesting topic. 1 and 2 are in my eyes the most true to their source material with 5 being the least like the book (It was the longest book and yet the shortest movie and cut a lot of the best bits). Though that isn't the deciding factor for me, acting in the first two wasn't as great as the later movies would be (casting was still brilliant though especially Alan Rickman as Professor Snape).
The general consensus on this is usually 3 and 4 are the best, they are also the ones I have seen the most. Though last year a couple of mates and I did a HP movie marathon and we found that 6 (despite the negativity that sometimes surrounds it) and 7 part 2 (apart from that scene right at the end where he snaps the wand. Harry never did that!) were also among our favourites.
I think based on a couple of factors though I will have to with 3. Which is strange as its the only one in which Voldemort isn't the major bad (though 6 is a bit on the fence in that aspect.
Man, I was trying to keep that short.

i've always felt like deathly hallows was an excuse to kill people off. Well there had been a major death in every book starting from the fourth, it was only a matter of time. And although I don't like the way that some people died it is the nature of war. That war was kind of set in stone the moment Fudge saw Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix.

Hedwig's death in the book certainly was, agreed. That's probably one of the only aspects I preferred in the movie, at least she got a proper death rather than die while trapped in a cage.
