Around the very last years of the Eighteenth Century, somewhere among the rich and the scum of the-- mind you, underground-- London coffee-houses was one flirtatious, manipulative hotshot known solely as VÅ, more of a socialite than a trickster, and alas! More of a trickster than a socialite, who, unlike his friends, all of whom were apparently continuing their studies at Oxford and Cambridge, had- wait, this part is funny- decided to go to hell! Not literally, of course, but a place quite near it: The Neath. Instead of finishing his education of the sciences and the arts, VÅ found going out and exploring the world more exciting! That, and the fact that his parents were dead, he couldn't pay tuition fees, and that his aunt was annoying. So he fell.
Vincent's eyes flutter open. Damn, he thinks. His mind flees to falling everytime he spaces out nowadays. That isn't good, considering he's on top of a rather.. high rooftop. His breathing ragged, Vincent rubs his eyes and stretches his arms. Focus. You have a mission. Watch the streets, find the suspects. It's easy. His eyes narrow to almost slits, darting from side to side. Where could they be? He had a perfect description. The detectives couldn't have been more exact. Bored, he sits back. While trying to keep an eye on the crowds of passerbys, Vince admires the bleak arch of the Neath-roof above, intrigued by its somewhat miserable beauty. A kitten, standing in front of him, looks around in awe at the lights. "Amazing! You can see everything from up here!" it says excitedly, although it's only a meow to its owner.
The tall, and rather lean man nods half-heartedly. "It's beautiful, isn't it, Caesar?" he smiles, also half-heartedly. Caesar meows in response, and this time it's a simple meow, no more. The false-stars of the Neath twinkle and move eerily, and for a minute he could swear he sees something moving up there, but he quickly realises those are black spots and have nothing to do with anything, except delirium and exhaustion. Vincent sighs, looking at himself. He sports a white shirt, with the last two buttons undone, and a loose tie around his neck. An expensive vest can be found in his hand. The weather is terrible. Plus with all this fog, he can't see anything. He angrily mutters to himself, cursing the day he step foot in this mad man's land, ironically taking a deep sniff of the Neath air he had grown so used to.
