Vote. The reason I do this poll is because I saw two people here use the incorrect spelling "airplane" and criticized the correct spelling even after I pointed it out.

though airplane has come to be accepted in language As has airnautical engineering, airdynamics and airspace. (Technically "airspace" is a real word, but it means something different than "aerospace", so I'm listing it anyway).

I live in America, and I suspect many other people here do as well, so Airplane is the correct spelling for us here.

The fact of the matter is, one of them uses the correct latin root for "air" and one of them's just jackshit stupid.

Airnautics and airdynamics haven't been used as slang because hardly anybody uses those terms in casual writing or conversation. If you're talking about that stuff in the correct context then you're obviously smart enough to recognize the correct spelling.

It matters because if you spell it "airnautics" or "airdynamics" you look like an idiot and so there's no point in spelling those correctly if you're still using the slang term to something else.

For much the same reason that I care about good grammar. OCD.

Americans are obviously stupid. We spell everything wrong. We use the wrong measurement system. And we have the highest obesity rate in the entire world. Yet we STILL give birth to people like Steve Jobs, and freaking amazing companies like MegaBots.

I mean, sure, there's bound to be others, but even then, they're less than 1% of America's population.
