Parasitic mosquitoes. These guys infect caterpillars and various other animals, inject their babies and leave. These babies eat the caterpillars food in the stomach, the caterpillars eat more food and the mosquitoes only leave enough for the caterpillar to live. Eventually they grow enough for the need to exit the caterpillar, caterpillars have tough skin so how do they get out? They have these piercing implements designed to rip through tough skin only and once they get out guess what? The caterpillars starts spinning it's thread reserved for it's cocoon around the mosquitoes and it starts to protect them. You heard right. Protect them. They fight off potential predators, not leaving for food or anything. Eventually dying, but by then, the mosquitoes have grown enough to fend for themselves. Now that, is cool.  |
