After several suggestions that I do so, I finally decided to move this over. For the most part, it'll just be copy and pasted.
(This is NOT the actual RP thread, please do not mistake it for such. The proposed RP is a semi-restricted RP, with this thread serving primarily as a signup request / interest check. Please continue reading further for a more detailed discussion on this.)
"In the end of days and time ceases to exist, the flames of our sun will cast the land into the fiery depths of the Burning Void, reducing all as we know it to ash. So shall mark the beginning of the Sundering."
- Excerpt of Soothsayer Varnova's Prophecy.
I) Introduction: (Apologies for the incredibly long speech; couldn't think of a better way to introduce history/background for the RP. Maps will also be introduced as needed; in example, a map presented on a table or such will thus be included in the created/post.)
You awake in a dimly lit room, fatigue weighing heavily on your limbs and a slight headache afflicting your mind as you quickly realize one thing; you are not in the same bed you fell asleep in. Looking around what appeared to be a small barracks, you see several other individuals like yourself stirring from sleep with looks of bewilderment on their faces. The loud steps of heavy boots on stone draws everyone's attention to a lone figure standing in the doorway.
"I apologize for the actions involving getting you all here, but I had to be certain there was no refusal in coming." the figure said grimly, stepping further into the room to reveal himself to the group.
"What I am about to say may sound blasphemous, but you must hear me out. After such, you will be allowed to leave as you wish, though I pray that not be the case.
Some of you may be familiar with Varnova's Prophecy, first uttered by the soothsayer in the dawn of man, mentioning the end of days in an event known as the Sundering. Unfortunately, mankind seems to think this is a vision of the future, when it is quite the opposite.
What you know as the three gods of the Eternal Ternion; Eridama, Arismard, and Risema, are not gods, but rather, they are long-extinct worlds.
With the creation of four elements of life, came four worlds; Eridama, a world of rich in land and minerals, Arismard, a world who's very denizens lived upon solid clouds, Risema, the world of endless seas, and what many believe to be an afterlife; The Burning Void. Each world evolved with gaining aspects, and sometimes, even abilities to manipulate the element of their worlds to their will.
The worlds once existed side by side, travel between them as possible as walking to the nearest blacksmith. But as the saying goes, war is in our nature, as so was true between the four elements. In a surprising act of war, denizens of the Burning Void began ruthlessly invading the other worlds, seeking to turn each element to ash; and so began the first Sundering.
Eridama, Arismard both quickly began to fall to the blazes of the Void and thus, in a last effort of saving all that is life, element lords of both worlds joined with those of Risema and combined their strength in order to create a ward between Risema, and the Burning Void.
The result of this combination marked the end of the element lords, and indeed, and end of the time of magic. The remnants of Eridama and Arismard, as well as their denizens, effectively merged into that of Risema; creating Tyriven and her five kingdoms as we know it today.
This merging of elements also marked the dawn of man, as we were born as offspring of these dead worlds; our bones from Eridama, our blood from Risema, and our spirit from Arismard.
You have all been brought here because I believe you all contain one thing in common; the blood and bones of these ancient ancestors lie within you. I sensed the spirits lying within you all within a flash, and thus brought you here to request your help. If what I believe is true, your existences can only mean one thing; for whatever reasons, the ward is weakening, and the Burning Void is pounding at the other side. I fear that without your help, Varnova's prophecy is doomed to come true."
II) Plot/Structural Information:
Greetings,
In this roleplay, you and a select few others will be working together to try and prevent the foretold end of the world known as the Sundering, marked by the invasion of the Burning Void. Throughout the roleplay, I will be controlling any NPCs, enemies/mobs, ect. rather than having one primary character. In doing so, I will be acting more like a story teller, helping to guide your mission rather than partaking in it.
Your actions as an individual, and as a team, will affect the direction the story of this roleplay will take as well as development of your character. Do realize that, while I will not kill you off without reason, that it IS a possibility (also reversible, through rare/certain events.) and complete failure of preventing the Sundering is possible. So work together, and work intelligently. If this roleplay is a success, I may make further, similar ones in the future.
III) Rules:
0) First, just to say it again, this is NOT the roleplay thread.
1) Obviously, all the basics; no godmodding, ubering, ect. ect.
2) With that said, what I say as, I guess I'll refer to myself as DM, goes.
3) Powers; use ONLY what powers you are have/learn. You will progress and learn more as the thread progresses.
4) Grammar is an absolute must if I am to even think about accepting you, and just for reasons of uniformity, participants must stick to using 3rd person.
5) If you do get accepted into the RP, PLEASE try to stay active during it. If you are going to be aware for a bit, message me or let me know so I can try and adjust the story around it.
6) As mentioned before, and should be assumed with rule (3), if your character ends up getting killed, then you are dead. This may, though rarely, be reversed and your life saved. But do not count on it.
7) Hand in hand with rule (6), don't just randomly attack other participants in the thread. This is not to say brawls may not break out, but you have more important enemies that need your attention.
8) This should be obvious, but if you are not PMed/made aware by myself directly that you are an accepted participant, then DO NOT PARTICIPATE. During creation of the actual thread, the list of all participants will be included in the initial post to clear up any possible confusion.
IV) All Things Magic:
As mentioned before, yes, you will be able to gain powers in this roleplay. These powers revolve around the three elements of water, earth, and air, and can be affected by your choice of deity as well as method of summoning magic. These powers will be beneficial, and crucial, to your effort against the armies of the Burning Void and, while they will start minimal/nonexistent, your choices and actions will lead to them developing into further, more powerful abilities.
A) The Three Deities;
When creating your character, you will be able to choose to follow one of the three 'gods', or rather, extinct worlds of element. Your choice of deity will determine what type of element you are strongest with and have the most capability of manipulating to serve your needs. (1) Eridama as the deity of earth, (2) Arismard as the deity of air, and (3) Risema as the deity of water. You may also choose to be Agnostic, to possibly interesting or possibly crippling results.
B) The Tranquility/Rage Method of Magic:
All summoning of magic is formed around the clearing of one's mind of all but a single thought. Element lords of the past had learned that there are two primary thoughts/emotions that provide the strongest feedback; thoughts of peace and tranquility, or thoughts of rage and wrath.
During creation of your character, you will be asked to put a percentage of rage and tranquility which adds up to 100. This will be used to determine whether the spells you are more capable with revolve around harming your enemies, or protecting your allies, or somewhere in-between.
As mentioned before, you will be explicitly told what abilities you have and learn throughout the roleplay; do NOT abuse or create your own powers to unbalance the roleplay.
V) Character Sheet: * = Optional
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Appearance:
Weapon of Choice: (Nothing too extravagant, please)
*Deity:
Rage/Tranquility Percentage:
*Bio/Other:
Just to say it all again, this is just the signup thread (participants will be posted on the initial post of the RP) and I will only be selecting a handful primarily because failure is a possible outcome, but not if new participants are able to keep jumping in.
